Sunshine Coast Guided Fly Fishing

Gavin Platz and his highly qualified professional guiding staff are passionate about fly fishing; and they love nothing more than sharing with you the thrill and excitement of catching fish on fly…
Whether it be targeting the pelagic species that migrate to the south-east Queensland coastline each year to feed on the abundant schools of baitfish or drifting through a serene wilderness lake setting, sight-casting to Australian natives, we have your bases covered…

Inshore & Offshore Guided Fishing

We are exceptionally blessed here on the Sunshine Coast to have a world class inshore and offshore fishery right on our back door! It is not uncommon to see pelagic fish busting up as we leave the harbour entrance. No need to run for miles to reach the fishing grounds!

Depending on the time of year, there is a vast array of species available to target on fly. The warmer months see longtail tuna, mack tuna, spanish & spotty Mackerel, cobia, queenfish, black marlin, sailfish and trevally, to name a few species, arriving in our waters! In particular, the longtail tuna (Thunnus tonggol) has become an iconic fly rod target along our shores. These line burning fish arrive in our waters during the month of February, for the remainder of the season they can be found harassing bait fish, up and down the coast until early June. Longtail tuna busting a bait balll is something that every fly fisherman must see at least once in his life. Once you have seen it the trick is seeing if you can remain calm enough to fire off a cast.

Winter and the accompanying cooler weather get the snapper, bream, flathead, yellowtail kingfish and tailor on the bite! Although not often considered a fly rod target, we are able to consistently target snapper on the shallow grounds along our coastline.

Estuary Guided Fishing

All within a 30 minute drive, Mooloolaba is surrounded by productive estuary systems. Depending on the tides and latest reports we offer guided fishing on the Mooloola, Maroochy and Noosa river systems.  Here you can successfully target bream, flathead, tailor and trevally on fly. These trips provide a great opportunity to hone your fly fishing skills and gain from your guides wealth of knowledge in a more tranquil environment, while still targeting some hard pulling fish!

Impoundments Guided Fishing

If you are after a more tranquil option, fishing one of SE Queensland’s many picturesque dams or lakes  surrounded by pristine natural bush land is the answer! Borumba Dam with its healthy population of native Saratoga and bass is a fly fisherman’s paradise. Sight-casting to cruising ‘toga’ and the  explosive surface strikes that follow  are sure to bring the most experienced anglers trembling to their knees!

Hervey Bay Guided Fly Fishing

Towards the end of each year we take advantage of the phenomenal flats fishing on offer along Fraser Islands east coast. These pristine white sand flats are home to Australia’s answer to bonefish - the golden trevally. This is sight-casting at its best, these large fish ’tailing’ in knee deep water is a sight that must be seen and won’t easily be forgotten!

Goldies are not the only species we come across on these beautiful flats. Along with queenfish and a host of other fish, the chance of running into juvenile black marlin mooching along the flats is a very good reason to be in the bay at this time of the year!
